Aaliyah Dana Haughton exploded into the limelight in 1994 when she debuted her first album Age Ain't nothing but A number. She was only 15 at the time and the album was later renamed Gold. It was done as part of a group that was greatly influenced by R. Kelly and it brought her into the spotlight. In 1996 Jermaine Durpri and Timbaland collaborated to produce her second Album One In A Million. The album included If Your Boyfriend Only knew as the lead single one. Aaliyah was recognized internationally as an R&B artist with their release of the second album One In A Million. She was a part of the romantic action film Romeo Must Die alongside martial arts legend Jet-Li. The role was offered to her after being spotted by director Joel Silver at an awards show. In 2002 she had the opportunity to appear in the horror film Queen of the Damned which was based on The Anne Rice novel. The Matrix Sequels saw her play Zee following her appearance in The Matrix Reloaded (2003) as well as The Matrix Revolutions that same year. The actress employs Aarti Man as well as Aarti Mahumdar for her stage name. Although she began her acting career in film and TV with a few minor roles her acting career gained speed in the late 2000s. In addition, she has appeared on Leverage, Suits, Grey's Anatomy and Grey's Anatomy. Her commercials have featured big brands, like Volvo. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughter and is continuing to develop her acting career.
